Question:
I am in Rancho Cucamonga, SoCal. What should I be looking at to replace an
old garage door with one of the new fangled sectional garage doors?
What should I be watching out for, hints, tips?
Answer:
It depends on if your looking for a wood door, fiberglass, steel or vinyl. I
don't know what is popular in southern CA, but here in AZ wood and steel are
popular. I recommend steel because of expense and less maintenance. For a
good door like a Clopay model 4050 series insulated with a steel front and
back door your looking at about $800.00. This would include the removal and
disposal of the existing door, doing the necessary framing to convert a
one -piece door to a sectional and reconnecting and adjusting the existing
operator to the new door. That would be if the existing operator rail has
not been cut down like some instructions in the past have indicated. The
above price would reflect if you have enough headroom and sideroom for the
requirements for a sectional door. I would get several estimates in writing.
There are a couple of rip off companies in CA.
