Question:
Anybody tried a 'propane' garage heater?
Answer:
I can sympathize with your plight trying to get someone to check. A
good HVAC shop should be able to do it. If they can't, find someone
else. Fire departments are getting more savvy, but it takes training,
time, equipment and $$$$$ to do it. This is something that should be
brought to the attention of your local government and a program put in
place.
As for the gas company not wanting to come out, you have see it from
their side. They only service natural gas equipment used by their
customers (who pay for the service), their personnel are not trained on
other types of fuel (propane, fuel oil, etc.) If they came out and
misdiagnosed your problem (because they were not really familiar with
your type of system) and you or a loved one got sick or died, who would
you blame for not correcting the problem? The gas company. And yet they
were just trying to be nice by helping a non customer with equipment
they are not familiar with. Hopefully they at least told you to call
911, seek medical attention and to get a professional HVAC person to
look at your home.
