Question:
Now that my 25 year old Genie is showing its age, I am in the market for
a new garage door opener. Anyone have any experience with choosing one
lately? From all that I gathered on Google, I am leaning towards the
Genie Excelerator. I admit to being lazy, so I may have someone install
it for me...
Answer:
bought a Genie Excelerator. After installing 2 garage door openers in
my garage, I couldn't believe what a massive PITA it was to install.
With my brother working with me (who's frankly better at this than I
am), it still took at least 50% longer than my other openers.
To add insult to injury, one day short of a year old, it died on me. It
took over *three weeks* to get it fixed under warranty. Since the only
way to lock my garage door was to disengage the opener, roll the door
up, back my car out, reengage the opener, roll the door down, reengage
the opener, and go out the service door, I got tired of this *really
quickly*.
