Question:
I've got to agree with the other poster. That price seems a little
high.
Call around your area to get a few more prices. Most companys don't
mind a little price shopping. It will be helpful to know a few things
about what you want when you call.
You'll need to know the size of the door 8x7?, 9x7? (width by height).
Do you want insulation, and what type? There's vinyl backed
insulation (styrofoam), and injection-foam steel backed doors.
Glass can come in all kinds of flavors, but plain old single strength
glass is good for most general purposes.
Answer:
Many mfg's offer a "lifetime" (for as long as you own the home & not
transferable) warranty on the door sections against rust through &
some also have a "lifetime" warranty on the hardware, which the Clopay
4400 is one of them. Then there are some of us very legitimate dealers
(www.actiondoor.com) that also offers a "lifetime" warranty on the
labor on that particular model only, but yes there are a few service &
installation companies that have warranty statements that may be
somewhat or even downright misleading.
Personally I don't have a clue how much garage doors cost in the
earthquake zones of southern California, but all garage doors are not
made the same (insulated residential doors run from 24 gauge to around
32 ga steel w/ 24 ga being the heaviest). So unless you are comparing
apples to apples, there can be a wide range in prices. Ask your
friends and neighbors who they use and recommend.
I got a price for a 16x8 garage door a couple of
years ago, commercial duty door, raised panel, 2" thick insulated, for just
under $1200. Well known company.
