Question:
I have a Stanley two-car size garage door, steel, in the house I purchased
last year. There is a metal bar that runs the length of the door across the
top, on the interior of the door (not the torsion bar, but on the door
itself).
This piece is a bit bent in the middle, as if the door once got jammed and
this was the piece that took the brunt of the force and bent. The result is
that it is not straight, but "V"s in the middle an inch or two, and as a
result the door does not make a weather-tight seal on the top as the top
panel of the door tries to conform itself to this metal bar.
I called two local garage door companies, and they each will only sell me a
new door. Is there any resource you can recommend where I can just order
and purchase this one piece which is the only think needed to fix the
problem?
Answer:
Stanley Does not make garage doors, just garage door openers.
you need to find out who makes the door, then you contact the
manufacturer and see if they will sell you the parts you need.
If you still cant get any help, you might be able to get the top panel,
i dont think garage door companies will try to sell you a full door just
for this, unless you contact the guy working out of his house and truck
and he is looking for business, you gotta go to the big places like
Overhead door company, the one in my area will sell you the panels, one
or two, or more, or springs, hardware etc, the guy working out of his
house will not sell you small items as he goes to the big places and
buys his stuff there and makes it up, thats how he makes a living...
Overhead Door company put up my garage door when the house was being
built, they have my address on file and look it up in their card file
and match up the correct parts for me when i go there(they never had my
name, but did keep a record of the addresses that they installed door
in. MY door is wood, they dont handle wood doors any more(it was 30
years ago when they installed it) but over the years i had bought some
panel, the door as 4 panels.
