Question:
Who makes the best garage floor paint?
Alternately, what do you guys think of putting down some warehouse-type
tile on the floor instead? Was thinking that that might offer a little
insulation, which wouldn't be a bad thing. (I actually have more faith
in my tiling skills than my ability to get a good painted finish.)
Answer:
Go to Home Depot, they're now contracting out epoxy flooring. I've seen the
do-it-yourself kits sold at Lowe's and Home Depot... they are easy enough
but the coat is very, very thin. I was quoted $700 by a professional
company at a home show a couple years ago for a 22x20 floor. This was for a
pretty thick coating... where any voids in the concrete would be leveled
out. Only drawback to epoxy is that it's slick as snot when wet. I'm still
on raw concrete, but I am about ready to do something soon... I got the
ceiling done, four 4-bulb fluorescent lights installed, put in a laundry
sink, and the walls painted.
You'll want to test a section first to see if you what you can do to the
floor. I've been told to tape a 12x12 piece of plastic to the floor with
all edges taped down for a couple days to see if any condensation builds up.
If it does, anything you put on the floor will pop loose.
